About the Position: This position is located at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, Directorate of Clinical Support, Department of Anatomical Pathology Service. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Major duties

Accession of Histopathology specimens for processing within the Histology Laboratory. Perform basic maintenance procedures within the laboratory. Interact with Healthcare providers to ensure that all specimens submitted have been properly ordered. Understand how to properly handle and dispose of chemical and pathology tissue specimens.

Qualification

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in receiving patient's specimens for staining and/or testing procedure. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled; or (b) successful completion of 2 academic years of study that included at least 24 semester hours in chemistry and/or in appropriate fields of biological science and successful completion of a 12-month program of education, training, and supervised experience in cytotechnology or histopathology that has been approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education.
