Major duties

You will install, modify, connect, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair low and high voltage breakers, protective devices, overhead and underground primary electrical distribution lines and similar equipment carrying voltages up to 35,000 Volts. You will locate faults and trouble spots on distribution lines by line inspection, and by use of various electrical testing instruments on equipment up to 35,000 Volts. You will install transformers, capacitors, insulators, lightning arrestors, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, meters, protective devices, poles, and other accessories used in connection with main distribution lines of voltages up to 35,000 Volts. You will climb poles or work from overhead platforms to string overhead wire. You will determine what equipment to use when working with live circuits and follow drawings or diagrams to perform work on circuits, distribution networks, or equipment interconnections.

Qualification

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following: 1) Installing wire or cable distribution lines from public utility supply point to distribution substations; 2) Setting proper wire tension or sag in accordance with strength and weight of wire, length of span, and wire contraction and expansion in temperature changes; and 3) Understanding drawings and diagrams of distribution network, equipment, and control circuits. **NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.
