This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Military Technician position with 99th Readiness Division, Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) 116, located in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Major duties

Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of construction, industrial, combat, tactical and power generation equipment. Repair and replace components of the cooling, braking, exhaust, power train, or hydraulic systems on combat and tactical, automotive, and powered support equipment. Remove, adjust or replace defective or worn parts and components. Perform operational inspections and ensure vehicles are properly serviced and repaired, perform preventative maintenance checks and services, and perform minor body work. Assist higher graded repairers in the performance of more complex repairs such as removing, repairing or replacing major components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, steering boxes, and fuel injection pumps. Operate motor vehicles to check work.

Qualification

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for DoD Maintenance Activities. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: troubleshoot, maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment to include performance of preventative maintenance checks and services; repair, replace, install, or make adjustments to mobile equipment components and parts; and conduct various operational tests to perform final inspection.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. Work on top of, under or in tight compartments of equipment. Frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside. The incumbent must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. The incumbent is exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, oils, and vehicle exhaust fumes. Incumbent is exposed to some inclement weather such as wind and rain. Subject to burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, and strains.
