As part of the ARCENT team, the 401st provides logistics support to military and government agencies working to build readiness and security capacity in the region. We accomplish this mission by integrating and synchronizing the reach back capability of the AMC Life Cycle Management Commands (LCMCs) and Program managers under the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology (ASA-ALT). Today, the Battalion operates within the ARCENT Area of Operation (AOR) in countries such as Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and UAE supporting joint military forces and government agencies such as the U.S. Department of State.

About the Position: This position is with the US Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Maintenance Division, Inspection and Quality Assurance Branch, located in Fort Hunter Liggett, California.
Major duties
Removes engines or power packs from vehicles. Completely disassembles engines determining the extent of repair and/or rebuild required. Checks, repairs and adjusts magnetos, timing, valves, distributors, coils, condensers, etc. Removes transmission, completely disassembles, replaces, defective selector rods, gears, pressure pump. Replaces and adjusts road wheels, road wheel bearings, idler wheels, idler bearings and all seals; replaces suspension arms, torsion bars, stabilizer bars, etc. Repairs and adjust power and mechanical steering systems and as required, does hull and body work which requires modifying, straightening, welding, sanding and painting. Works alone or with an inspector or mechanic, diagnoses and repairs all types of failures in electrical systems (12 and 24 volts) including ignition, lighting and power circuits using various devices and testing equipment.

I can assist a journey worker in preparing the work area by getting tools and supplies, carrying materials, and lifting and holding material in place during installation. I have operated simple hand tools to remove parts. I have cleared work area of debris and kept tools clean and lubricated. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. Sometimes work on top of and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside. Frequently exposed to drafts, noise, dust, heat, fumes and hard floors or ground. Typically works on parts which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Possibility of cuts, burns, bruises or sprains. Exposed to burns and skin irritation from welding operations, acids, fluids, and lubricants. Wears protective clothing and equipment as necessary.
