This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: These positions are located in Directorate of Industrial Operations, at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA, 17201.
Major duties
Determine methods to disassemble equipment. Perform modifications and repairs on equipment. Prepare vehicles for final inspections by performing diagnostic tune ups. Organize items to be transported to appropriate storage area. Diagnose and test functions to locate defects and tracing problems to determine malfunctions of equipment. Operate motor vehicles in order to test the equipment.
Qualification

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. Perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic duties such as diagnose and test functions to locate defects and trace problems to determine malfunctions of equipment, organize items to be transported to appropriate storage areas, prepare vehicles for final inspections by performing diagnostic tune up, perform modifications and repairs on equipment and determine methods to disassemble equipment. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Physical Efforts: Work is performed in a variety of positions which are uncomfortable, awkward, and tiring. Work also involves a considerable amount of bending, stretching, climbing, and stooping, either under or on vehicles. Frequently lifts and handles parts and equipment up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved/lifted with overhead hoists/cranes or assistance from other workers. Working Conditions: Usually works inside where there is frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, dust, fumes, dirt, oil, and grease while standing on hard surfaces. Occasionally may work outside with the possibility of exposure to adverse weather conditions such as temperature extremes, rain, and snow. There is frequent exposure to cuts, burns, bruises, shocks, and strains and the possibility of skin irritation from vehicle fluids.
