About the Position: This position is located in the Operating Room Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Major duties

Transport patients from hospital units to the Operating Room, ensuring safe transportation and reviewing patient records for preoperative compliance (e.g., confirming preoperative medications, removal of jewelry, prosthetics, etc.). Screen patients for completeness of preoperative documentation and ensures patient readiness by reviewing medical history, confirming identity, and discussing the procedure. Comfort and support patients experiencing anxiety or fear about surgery. Prior to patient entering the operating room, ensures primary equipment, such as robotic surgery platforms (including Thoracic ION robotic technology) are functional, operating, troubleshoots if necessary, and ensures the sterility of equipment. Serve as a scrub technician during surgery, selecting, assembling, and organizing the necessary instruments and equipment based on the surgical procedure and the surgeon’s preference card. Clean operating room after surgery, removes and disposes of soiled and/or contaminated materials; changes linen; washes, disassembles, sterilizes, and reassembles instruments.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which assisting with the assembly of surgical equipment and instruments in the operating room; preparing equipment and supplies based on specific surgical procedure(s). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
