Major duties

You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the HEALTH PHYSICS BRANCH (CODE 105.52) of the RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE (CODE 105) located in KITTERY, ME. You will design, develop, implement, and maintains complex dosimetry processing instrumentation and associated software and procedures for various types of routine and unusual dosimetry occurrences. You will provides direction, troubleshooting, and technical assistance for all instrumentation use and problem resolution. You will investigate, resolve, document, and reviews circumstances surrounding unusual dosimetry occurrences. You will prepare and review personnel exposure reports on a regular basis. You will compile and examines analysis data to determine trends and demonstrate equipment performance consistency.

Qualification

EXPERIENCE GS-11: In addition to the Basic Requirements (see Education section), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience comprehending and interpreting complex technical, scientific and engineering data, publications, etc. related to Health Physics and Radiation Health programs. Experience independently managing records, developing procedures, investigating and documenting anomalies, and advising on radiological issues and/or programs. Experience preparing reports, conducting analyses, and ensuring environmental compliance. Experience performing complex functions and calculations to determine the actual or anticipated consequences of radiological emergencies and executing appropriate action to minimize the magnitude of the occurrence. GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements (see Education section), your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience comprehending and interpreting complex technical, scientific and engineering data, publications, etc. related to Health Physics and Radiation Health programs. Education

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: GS-11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. GS-09: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
