Job summary
You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MATERIALS) in the Composites Branch, Composites & Corrosion Division, Materials Engineering Department, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul Engineering (MRO-E) Group of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Major duties
You will maintain processes and procedures required to maintain a safe, operational polymers and composite laboratory/clean room within the Materials Engineering Department. You will be cognizant of specific hazards relating to polymers and composite and should make anyone he/she is working with aware of those hazards that are applicable to their work. You will perform and provide support for thermal damage inspections for fleet customers. You will evaluate shops and contractor produced parts/components for conformance to engineering and drawing/specification requirements. You will perform measurement, chemical analysis, mechanical testing and rheological testing.
Qualification
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing methods and techniques for designing and constructing prototype repairs and proof of concept manufactured items and standards utilizing standard machine/composite shop or chemistry lab tools and devices; 2) Modifying standard practices and adapt equipment or techniques to solve various technical problems; 3) Developing detailed procedures, schedules and man hour/cost estimated for programs or projects; and 4) Reading and interpreting drawings, 3D computer models and blueprints and have a detailed working knowledge of practical mathematics, and skills in preparation of drawings, models, sketches, if required.
