Job summary
The selectee for this position will serve as an ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Major duties
You will operate gasoline, multi-fuel, or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction You will operate one or more types of heavy equipment on all types of terrain to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth You will move earth on steep slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, and other surfaces with similar rough features You will adjust attachments for proper positioning and working order, making adjustments without stopping the power unit or the equipment You will perform minor maintenance on equipment and operates other vehicles as workload requires You will be required to act as a rigger or signal person during crane operations as required
Qualification
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Must possess and maintain a valid state class "A" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the ability to obtain Hazmat, Tanker and Passenger bus endorsements within 90 days of employment. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) operates heavy duty gasoline or diesel engine powered automotive and construction equipment such as forklifts, dump trucks, semi trucks, fuel trucks ,snow removal equipment, bulldozers, graders, backhoes, loaders, road rollers and similar equipment to level ground, move earth, grade roads, load and transport heavy materials; and 2) services, recharges and installs storage batteries for electric type forklifts.
