This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Major duties
Operates various engineer equipment such as backhoe loaders with various attachments to perform general construction, demolitions and excavations, landscaping, material handling operations. Inspect 30 miles of track, including trestles, bridges, crossings and culverts for loose, worn or missing spikes, nails, ties, switches or any other issues. Operate a street sweeper to clean JBLM streets not covered by contract and perform operator maintenance on sweeper such as greasing fittings and changing small brooms. Operate a patching truck for repair of asphalt for streets and parking lots on the military base. Operate dump trucks and trucks with special attachments in the range of 20,000 pounds.
Qualification
Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator tasks. Operate a grader and bulldozer to clear brush; grade roads, push, pull, pile and load earth, sand and gravel: backfill and/or dig trenches. Also have experience performing operator level preventative maintenance on assigned equipment - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - Heavy physical effort is used in constantly bending, reaching turning and moving hands, feet and legs to handle different sets of controls. Considerable strain is caused by constant vibration jerking and jolting from operations over rough surfaces. Frequently work in awkward or strained positions or perform constant standing and walking when patching roads. In addition exerts considerable effort when using shovel, jackhammer or pick to repair asphalt. Frequently lifts and caries items weighing 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Working Conditions - Works in all types of weather, often in open driver's seat or platform in all types or terrain. Exposed to possible injury due to possible overturning or equipment. Exposed to noise, vibration, dust and dirt and fumes. May be exposed to hazardous or flammable material.
