Click on "Learn more about this agency" button below to view Eligibilities being considered and other IMPORTANT information. The primary purpose of this position is to provide repair and maintenance services on electronic devices and equipment in support of the 17th Civil Engineer Squadron.

Major duties

Performs installation, pretests, operational (functional), or final testing of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies to include fire alarms and mass notification systems (MNS) Troubleshoots electronic systems to include fire alarm and mass notification system components, or subassemblies to determine nature of malfunction and correction required Performs overhaul, repair, fabrication, or modification of electronic systems, components, or subassemblies to include fire alarm and mass notification systems Utilizes safety practices and procedures. Uses personal protective equipment and complies with all appropriate safety and health directives Controls tools. Insures tools are properly marked, calibrated (if necessary), and are secured when area is unattended. Reports any lost tools in accordance with applicable procedures

Qualification

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to overhaul, repair, troubleshoot, or fabricate complete electronic systems. Ability to use a variety of electronic, electrical, or electromechical test and measurement equipment. Skill in the selection and use of electronic testing equipment Knowledge of related electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, fire alarm, mass notification and hydraulic systems Knowledge of mathematical expressions and formulas including algebra and basic trigonometry for application and constructing truth tables, logic equations, power relationships, signal phasing, etc Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to electronics trade Knowledge of s afety requirements as outlined in applicable standards , r egulations and technical orders. Knowledge of security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and policy statements Knowledge of standard calibration practices and procedures for electronic equipment PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require moderate physical effort. Mechanics frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 lbs.). Occasionally they handle items greater than 18 kilograms. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasionally climbing and working in high places may be required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Mechanics are subject to injuries, such as electric shocks, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy or soldering irons. The mechanic may be required to work in cramped positions or in close proximity to energized or operating machinery. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
