Job summary

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Major duties

You will operate a central switchboard to actuate remotely controlled circuit breakers, transformers, and switches to regulate and maintain correct voltage on distribution lines. You will diagnose malfunctions in electrical circuits on power distribution equipment. You will check and adjust steam output capacity and electrical generation to meet varying loads. You will monitor data from wattmeters, voltmeters, and ammeters of feeders to ensure equipment is operating correctly. You will adjust controls to regulate the flow of electric power.

Qualification

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing the following: 1) Operating power generation and distribution systems supporting a myriad of industrial and residential operations on the Naval base; 2) Operating control panels that allow remote starting of diesel engine powered generators as well as monitoring commercial power and conversion to auxiliary power systems; 3) Monitoring of voltage and amperage and make exacting adjustments to the system to assure adequate power for load demands; 4) Reading/analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal conditions such as, circuit overloads, improper line voltages, or equipment temperature; and 5) Determining the causes of these abnormal conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls.
