Job summary

You will serve as a Crane Operator in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Major duties

You will operate multiple types of hydraulic boon cranes to load, unload, move, and position heavy material and equipment. You will work from hand, radio, and other approved types of signals to position items where is there restricted maneuverability. You will complete operator's daily checklist to document pre and post crane inspections. You will use load charts to determine crane's lifting capacity in relation to the position of the boom and to compensate for variations in a crane's lifting capacity.

Qualification

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Crane Operator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following tasks: 1) Operating boom cranes to load, unload, move and position material with restricted maneuver ability requiring critical accuracy; 2) Performing required operator's maintenance, inspections, and reporting; 3) Working from hand, radio or other approved types of signals for crane operations. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
