Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for an Air Vehicle Staff Engineer specializing in Weapons Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will be located in Melbourne, FL.  Some travel will be required for this position.

In this role you will be responsible for developing, analyzing, modifying, maintaining the Weapons Systems Mechanical Architecture using engineering practices and standards.  The selected candidate will have responsibility over the physical design and stress analysis for weapons carriage related hardware, including the analytical methods/results depending on prior background/experience.  The candidate should have experience in developing Stores Management Systems and Suspension and Release Equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will be part of a small team of mechanical design/analysis engineers supporting the design, development, analysis, and integration of weapons onto a military aircraft.

  • The candidate may also develop the weapon/S&RE layout configurations, Interface Control Drawings (ICDs), and coordinate them with other aircraft IPTs (such as structures and subsystems) to help define/develop hard points for S&RE attachment.

  • The candidate may also prepare and/or oversee the execution of qualification plans and tests, including some supplier management as required.

  • The candidate may also lead efforts associated with Stress and/or Durability and Damage Tolerance (DaDT) analyses related to weapons carriage hardware and mechanisms. 

  • As needed, candidate may also support EVMS activities

  • As needed, candidate must also attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR, etc.) to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.

  • Other responsibilities and duties include assisting the IPT lead in managing team cost and schedule, while also leading technical aspects associated with the activities outlined above and mentoring earlier career individuals in design/analysis methods used to execute team SOW.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in mechanical/aerospace engineering that includes a background in aircraft mechanical/weapons systems OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 10 years of related professional/military experience in mechanical/aerospace engineering that includes a background in aircraft mechanical/weapons systems OR PhD and 8 years of related professional/military experience in mechanical/aerospace engineering that includes a background in aircraft mechanical/weapons systems

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance and Special Access Programs (SAP) prior to the commencement of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline with 12 years of related experience

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1760, UAI, CFW, MIL-STD-1553

  • Familiarity with Cameo and/or Doors

  • Familiarity with NX CAD software and Teamcenter PLM

  • Familiarity with stress analysis software such as Patran/Nastran and Femap

  • Managerial / Team Lead experience

  • CAM Certification
