Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Thread Support - Staff Systems Engineer. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The Sentinel program has an exciting opportunity for a Thread Support, Staff Systems Engineer (TSSSE) on the Sentinel Systems Engineering team. The TSSSE will be assigned to support either the System Operations (OPS) or Responsiveness & Status (R&S) threads and may be tasked with supporting one or more other system capability threads based on program priorities. They will be charged with delegated authority for the associated Thread Lead(s) they are assigned.
- The System Operations thread encompasses the capability of the Weapon System to support day-to-day mission execution (e.g., MMIII-to-Sentinel deployment and operations, deployment of software keys and codes, wing infrastructure, operational testing)
- The Responsiveness & Status Thread broadly includes capabilities related to Weapon System targeting, launch execution, and launch health & status
This role provides a great growth opportunity for an individual interested in developing into a technical leadership role.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Become a subject matter expert (SME) and technical lead with end-to-end / top-to-bottom understanding for the successful implementation of a their assigned thread(s) for the Sentinel Program
- Act as primary delegation of authority for their assigned threads. This includes, but not limited to:
- Partner with the program's SEIT leadership and Office of Chief Engineering (OCE) to ensure their assigned threads technical baseline is developed with high quality
- Brief program leadership, customers, and stakeholders on their assigned threads at both program and technical reviews
- Establish an effective system of working group / coordination sessions with stakeholders across the development community to ensure effective horizontal and vertical thread integration
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across program, customers, and stakeholder communities
- Engage in formal and informal mentoring to support knowledge transfer and talent development
- Execute special projects as needed for their assigned threads
- Support providing oversight of all systems engineering products related to their assigned threads. These include:
- Requirements definition and allocation, with cognizance down to the lowest level
- Architecture and interface definitions
- Functional flows and CONOPS scenarios
- Performance / allocation budgets, analysis, and margin management
- Trade studies
- Verification planning, including coordination of required and expected verification products down to the lowest applicable level
- Verification and validation execution, including authorship of requirement verification reports and customer coordination
- Solution definition / design artifacts produce a compliant realization of the thread capability
- Integration and test planning and procedure development
- Risk and opportunity identification and associated execution planning
- Technical Performance Measure (TPM) reporting and management
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 12 years of related experience; 10 years with a Masters; 8 years with a PhD.
- US Citizenship with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
- ICBM experience or complex aerospace systems experience
- Experience in team environment with leadership responsibilities
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing for the development of complex systems of systems
- Experience creating, updating, and maintaining system performance documentation
- Strong understanding and broad application of complex engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Large scale / complex system development experience across multiple phases of a development program: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell off, transition to production
- Experience with implementing and using model-based systems engineering tools, practices, and methods
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance with Special Access Program (SAP) approval with Sentinel

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
