About Orion Edge Group
Company Overview
Orion Edge Group is a specialized defense technology company focusing on tactical electronic warfare solutions. Orion Edge develops systems that enable military personnel to disrupt and deny communications and navigation networks of adversary drones and uncrewed systems across multiple domains.
Mission
The company’s mission is to create tactical advantages for warfighters by developing electronic warfare systems that can sever enemy communications with the touch of a button. Orion Edge’s solutions are designed to be deployed at the tactical edge of military operations.
Orion Edge operates in the defense technology industry, specifically in the electronic warfare (EW) sector with a focus on developing electromagnetic warfare products and engineering services tailored to modern defense missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Design and simulate DC-DC converters, Low-Dropout (LDO) regulators, and power sequencing circuitry to supply clean, regulated power to various active RF devices (e.g., Power Amplifiers (PAs), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs), Mixers, and Voltage-Controlled Oscillators (VCOs)).
- RF Integration: Work directly with RF engineers to define power requirements, minimize the impact of power supply noise (PSRR - Power Supply Rejection Ratio), and ensure power delivery structures do not introduce unwanted RF coupling or signal degradation.
- Noise Mitigation: Implement advanced techniques for EMI/EMC compliance, including filtering, shielding, and layout optimization to achieve ultra-low noise and ripple on all power rails.
- Thermal Management: Analyze and design power systems with optimal thermal performance, collaborating with mechanical engineers to ensure reliable operation under various load and environmental conditions.
- Component Selection: Select appropriate power management integrated circuits (PMICs), magnetics, and passive components based on performance, cost, and availability.
- Prototyping and Testing: Build and test prototypes, performing detailed electrical characterization, including transient response, efficiency measurement, and spectral analysis of power supply noise.
- Documentation: Create comprehensive design documentation, test plans, and manufacturing specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
-
Experience: 3+ years of experience in power supply design, preferably for high-speed, sensitive, or RF applications.
- Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of switching power supply topologies (Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost) and linear regulators (LDOs).
- Proficiency in circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, PSpice, or equivalent).
- Experience with PCB layout guidelines for power integrity and noise reduction.
- Strong lab skills using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and electronic loads.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, particularly with RF engineers.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with battery management systems.
- Knowledge of common RF system architectures and power consumption profiles.
- Experience with high-frequency decoupling and impedance matching techniques.
