The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Design & Applications (MDA) business area is leading efforts to transform computing, combining the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop revolutionary energy-efficient computing systems. You will work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of and engineers to make these next generation processing solutions a reality.
We are seeking experienced RF/Microwave IC (MMIC) Design Engineers to join our Sacramento, California design center in development of superconducting electronic integrated circuits. You will use your skills as an Integrated Circuit (IC) designer while learning about superconducting circuit design in support of Northrop Grumman's advanced microelectronics applications business.
This position requires work on site at Northrop Grumman’s McClellan, CA facility.
What You’ll Get to Do:
- Apply your skills as design engineer while learning about superconducting technology including NG’s patented Reciprocal Quantum Logic (RQL).
- Invent new circuit solutions and topologies utilizing superconducting Josephson Junction (JJ) devices.
- Design, layout and verify custom integrated circuits in NG superconducting technologies.
- Work with high-frequency simulation and multiphysics software tools such as ANSYS (HFSS/Maxwell3D), ADS (Momentum), COMSOL, etc.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, product owners, and other team members to develop, document, and propagate best practices.
- Develop execution plans and advocate for the implementation of tools for emerging simulation needs.
This position may be filled as a Principal RF/Microwave IC Design Engineer OR Sr. Principal RF/Microwave IC Design Engineer level based on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for Principal RF/Microwave IC Design Engineer
- Bachelor of Science STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) degree with 5 years of experience in RF, Analog, or Mixed Signal Circuit design or 3 years' experience with a master's degree.
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso or similar IC design software
- Working knowledge of the IC design flow including schematic capture, simulation, and layout.
- Strong understanding of RF network and resonator transmission line theory.
- Understanding of fundamental principles of finite elemental analysis.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in simulation tool development, verification, and loop closure comparison to test results.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance (US Citizenship is a requirement for this).
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal RF/Microwave IC Design Engineer
- Bachelor of Science STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) degree with 8 years of experience in RF Analog, or Mixed Signal Circuit design (5 years with technical MS or 3 years with a PhD).
- Proficiency with Cadence Virtuoso or similar IC design software
- Working knowledge of the IC design flow including schematic capture, simulation, and layout.
- Strong understanding of RF network and resonator transmission line theory.
- Understanding of fundamental principles of finite elemental analysis.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in simulation tool development, verification, and loop closure comparison to test results.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance (US Citizenship is a requirement for this).
Preferred Qualifications for both levels
- Experience with RF/microwave circuit design and proficiency with ADS suite of tools.
- Microwave engineering background; understanding of s-parameters and impedance matching techniques.
- Proficient use of at least one of the following software tools for linear and nonlinear circuit characterization: ANSYS (HFSS/Maxwell3D), ADS (Momentum), COMSOL, etc.
- 2D and 3D Electromagnetic modeling experience with commercial tools such as ANSYS (HFSS/Maxwell3D), COMSOL, Momentum, etc.
- Analog/RF, EMI/EMC PI signal integrity experience.
- Experience implementing filters and low-noise techniques for noise-critical blocks such as LNAs and mixers.
- Programming experience with Cadence SKILL or Python
- Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph.
