The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do:
The Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:
Drive AM Qualification efforts utilizing IQ, OQ and MQ with a strong collaborative RTX Business Unit cross functional team
Review industry AM standards and incorporate into RTX value stream where applicable
Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives
Develop and utilize advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space
Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
Conduct RCCA activities on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps
Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream
Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and best practices
Qualifications Required:
A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
Presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills with a desire to learn something new every day
Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar and experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
Experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment and a working understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer:
The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment.
Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.
