Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Ground Segment Software Architect to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within the Tactical Division. This technical role is located in Dulles, VA.

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the overall architectural design on a funded study effort that stems from system requirements, decomposed across multiple levels aimed to represent the ground capabilities that have a major impact on the mission.  You will be interfacing directly with the Software, Operations, Integration and Test teams, as well as program leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline. To be successful you should have a strong background in systems engineering and architecture, with expertise in the development and operation of ground segments for space systems.

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Lead the development of the overall ground segment architecture, interfaces, and operational concepts
  • Develop and maintain the ground segment technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives
  • Work closely with program management, systems engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure the ground segment architecture meets program requirements
  • Drive the program through maturity and milestones to achieve the overall mission
  • Lead in the facilitation of technical meetings to establish the future state of the ground segment architecture
  • Collaborate with industry partners and other stakeholders to identify new technologies and capabilities for the ground segment
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customer counterparts
  • Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at technical and program reviews and boards
  • Deliver presentations to customers, executive management and other program stakeholders

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Knowledge of satellite communications and system operations
  • Experience writing and presenting technical information to customers and executive management
  • Experience leading requirement development/testing/verification

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field from an accredited university with 14+ years’ experience (OR a Master’s Degree with 12+ years’ experience or a PhD with 9+ years.)  Experience can be considered in lieu of degree
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Experience using the DOORS Requirements Management Database
  • Experience working with Atlassian tool suite (i.e. JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance and ability to obtain and maintain program access at the time of application

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (SysML/UML) concepts to support architecture design/development
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to resolve conflict and negotiate with positive outcome while maintaining good relationships with customers
