Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Embedded & Real Time Staff Level Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Software organization. This role is in Rancho Bernardo, CA and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule meaning you will get every other Friday off. The position may have some Hybrid work available.
In this role you will design, develop, integrate, and test software for our end-user customers and businesses. Specifically, you will be responsible for the design, development, and administration of embedded and real time systems. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams, such as with Systems Engineering, Test Automation, DevSecOps and Systems Test, in an Agile software development environment.
Essential Functions:
Work independently in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels.
Participate in the full software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, qualification, and delivery of software products to our customers.
Develop architectures and operate in an embedded technology development environment working with real time operating systems for use in flight and mission critical systems.
Work in Agile Scrum teams to develop software products for multiple software baselines.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 12 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 10 Years experience; OR a PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9 Years experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance and Special Program Access.
Experienced with C++ and Python.
Experience with Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD).
Experience managing the Software Requirements process and their Verification and Validation.
Experience with developing software used for one of the following real-time applications: flight critical software, Safety critical software, medical software, or mission critical software.
Experience with one of the following real time operating systems: Wind River VxWorks, Green Hills Integrity, or Realtime Linux.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with CoreVMS and RTCF.
Experience with three of the following tools: Jira, Crucible, Bitbucket, Subversion, Bamboo, Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify, or Coverity.
Experience with multiple serial bus data interfaces (including UDP/IP over Ethernet), communicating and managing the health of external devices.
Experience with one of the following real time operating systems: Wind River VxWorks, Green Hills Integrity, or Realtime Linux.
Experience with Agile software architecture, design, development, embedded system programming, software integration and testing.
Experience with the airworthiness process.
Strong understanding of closed loop control system architectures.
Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
Strong understanding of PowerPC or ARM assembly language.
Understands assembly emitted by C/C++ compilers for typical code constructs.
Has developed code in assembly to support low level drivers, BSPs, or critical performance implementations.
Strong understanding of redundancy architectures and requirements that drive them such as: Hot/warm restarts, Cross-channel data links, Software synchronization, Duplex vs triplex vs quad computer implementations.
Strong understanding of embedded software architectures and requirements that drive them.
Strong understanding of hardware interfaces in the software architecture and their impacts.
Ability to collaborate with systems engineers, hardware designers and integration/test engineers to develop and maintain complex software systems.
Experience with leading a medium to large size (6-20) technical team with technical decision making.
Active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret Clearance.
