Job summary
About the Position: The Medical Technician uses judgment and initiative to plan and carry out successive steps of work assignments in accordance with established protocols,previous training, or accepted laboratory practices. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Major duties
Greet and verify patient screening information and ensure patient understanding of instructions. Properly and accurately label specimens, annotating time of collection, ensuring proper collection day and initialing all tubes collected. Maintain a clean and sanitary drawing area, restocks supplies as needed and maintains security of controlled items such as needles and syringes. Review requests for lab tests for accuracy prior to specimen procurement. Collect specimens into appropriate anticoagulant, preservative or clot tubes as required by test requested.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory testing and examinations; inputting and/or retrieving data to prepare reports of findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. [The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.] OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
