Job summary

You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DIV, HM&E; ENG AND PLAN DEPT of the NAVAL SHIP REPAIR FACILITY. The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions. This position is subject to the hiring freeze. Although we are moving forward with the consideration of candidates, we will not make a selection for this vacancy announcement unless and until the position is no longer subject to the hiring freeze.

Major duties

You will serve as a Gas Turbine Mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the HM and E Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) Division providing FTA to all Homeported and Deployed ships in the 7th fleet. You will provide system testing/certification of a variety of Marine Gas Turbine Control Systems for all operating ships. You will determine requirements and develop detailed specifications and/or plans for repair, modernization, testing, and certification. You will identify parts and material support requirements necessary to accomplish required repairs or modernization. You will perform Gas Turbine Mechanical assessments and inspections as SME including Total Ship Readiness assessments (TSRA), Integrated Class Maintenance Plan (ICMP) assessments, and Gas Turbine Bulletin (GTB) inspections.

Qualification

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing mechanical system and equipment/component technical support services for gas turbine and associated control systems to support projects for ship repairs or overhauls (e.g., performance, operation, maintenance, depot level repairs, modernization and system testing/certification). Marine Gas Turbine Inspector Certification is preferred but not required. Additional Information Cont. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
