Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer / Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting our Production Engineering and Operations (PE&O) organization.  The position requires on-site support located in Melbourne, FL, and cannot be performed remotely due to the nature of the role.

The selected candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Manufacturing Engineering Team working in a collaborative environment while promoting a positive and proactive teamwork environment.

Manufacturing Engineering job duties involve the following:

  • Provide guidance to Engineering regarding design concepts to ensure the best manufacturing technique is being used to meet the Engineering design.
  • Participate in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible and reduce build times and program costs during assembly.
  • Identify manufacturing processes and specialty tooling requirements to improve efficiency, quality, and ergonomics in production operations.
  • Research, develop, and provide process training as required.
  • Define sequence of operations for product builds, investigate and initiate corrective actions and improvements that involve non-conforming product and identify improvement opportunities in areas that require producibility and affordability initiatives.
  • Ability to interface/communicate with multiple levels of Leadership (e.g., Program Managers and Directors), Customers, and Suppliers.
  • Work on large, interdisciplinary teams
  • Mentor & build technical networks
  • Ability to provide innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment

Manufacturing Engineers for Aeronautics Systems are expected to provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems. They are problem solvers who have the ability to provide results that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives. Basic Qualifications (Principal Manufacturing Engineer):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM and 4 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 3 years of related engineering experience
  • Experience in NX, Catia, CAD, and or with related Computer aided design programs.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and/or Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Active DOD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Special Access Program within a reasonable amount of time as required by the business.

Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM and 8 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in STEM and 6 years of related engineering experience
  • Experience in NX, Catia, CAD, and or with related Computer aided design programs.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and/or Microsoft PowerPoint).
  • Active DOD Secret security clearance investigated within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Special Access Program within a reasonable amount of time as required by the business.

Preferred Qualifications:        

  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting 2-D drawings and/or 3-D models for overall manufacturing producibility, assembly, and installation.
  • Experience and process knowledge in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Experience with Subsystem design, manufacturing, and assembly (i.e. Hydraulics, Environmental Control System, Fuel System, Fire Protection, etc.)
  • Experience with Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, or Machining/Fabrication Processes.
  • Manufacturing assembly/installation work instructions authoring experience.
  • Experience working hands-on in a production assembly line environment.
  • Experience with developing enhancement processes that improve production shop floor efficiencies.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems and System Application and Production (SAP) knowledge
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment.
