Electric Boat's Navy Facility Engineering and Training Technologies team is seeking an Instructional Technologist to provide instructional design expertise and production oversight of enterprise-level training products focused on computer-based operational/technical training, Interactive Media Instruction (IMI), and other specialized educational programs for U.S. Navy submarine fleet. The individual will primarily be responsible for the exploration of learning technologies applied towards a variety of training solutions for instructional programs funded by NAVSEA stakeholders to support U.S. Navy personnel in accordance with U.S. Navy Educational Training Command (NETC) standards and Submarine On Board Training (SOBT) guidelines for major ship systems, e.g., Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E), Common Missile Compartment (CMC), and Steam Electrical Plant (SEP).
The successful candidate has experience utilizing a variety of learning technology applications, including developing modern UX web experiences using web-authoring coding language and implemented through industry-recognized Learning Management Systems (LMS). The individual will work closely with various NAVSEA partners along with Electric Boat ship specification engineers, designers, and technical specialists to support the analysis, design, and development of eLearning courses and curriculum paths for a variety of digital learning products utilized on board U.S. Navy Submarines and shore-based facilities.
This position is sponsored by Navy Facility Engineering and Training Technologies and reports directly to the Program Supervisor for D701.
Responsibilities:
- Apply digital instructional design methodologies to determine the most effective computer-based online training strategies to best achieve the performance objectives.
- Create digital learning content such as interactive eLearning courses, short learning videos, infographics and iPDFs.
- Develop testing strategies to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs and track outcomes and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Manage assigned training project expectations and interact with internal and external customers at all levels within the organization.
- Partner with graphics, media specialists, and other courseware developers to design, develop and/or update instructional program requirements.
- Publish courses in the Learning Management System and ensure correct functionality.
- Conduct reviews of preliminary and final courses to ensure quality of deliverables.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with developing modern UI/UX web experiences utilizing web-coding languages, e.g., HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc. A thorough understanding of Learning Management Systems (LMS) utilized to develop and implement computer-based training solutions is necessary to be successful in this role.
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 4+ years recent experience designing and delivering multiple web-based courseware and blended learning solutions for the U.S. Navy training programs or other skill-based industrial training programs utilizing industry-recognized course authoring tools and/or web-coding languages, e.g., HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.
- Experience developing multiple training projects simultaneously.
- Ability to possess a DoD Secret clearance.
Preferred
- Bachelors degree in instructional systems design, workforce development, industrial and organizational psychology or current certification(s) directly related to the scope of responsibilities described for this position.
- 2+ years development experience developing modern UI/UX web experiences utilizing web-coding languages, e.g., HTML, JavaScript, CSS, etc.
- Experience working with one or more existing U.S. Navy training programs, e.g., Submarine On-Board Training (SOBT), AIM/CPM-LOM, Naval Training Qualification Standards (NTQS), technical/tactical simulation trainers.
- U.S. Navy operational experience in a technical field, e.g., engineering, mechanical, electrical, propulsion.
