Job summary
This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Interested applicants must follow the directions in the "How to Apply" section of this flyer to be considered. Major duties
You will edit technical materials, such as reports of research findings; scientific or technical articles, news releases, and periodicals; regulations in technical areas; technical manuals, specifications, brochures, and pamphlets. You will edit for grammar, conformance to style and format requirements, clarity, and tone, and then prepare reports for printing. You will offer recommendations to material after discussions with the authors for making changes in charts, graphs, or illustrations already included in the reports. You will review reports detailing the results of test and evaluation projects written by engineers and scientists to make sure material is accurate and functional. You will examine manuals used for training as well as for operation and maintenance purposes. You will examine technical material for conformance to correct style requirements and the agency's publication standards.
Qualification
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-1 (GS-4 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Subject matter knowledge of submarine procedures and processes. Strong knowledge of writing specifications, techniques, requirements, and publication preparation processes including manual organization, lay-out, writing, change control, proofing, editing, and operation. Subject matter knowledge to be able to recognize that technical publications are written clearly and logically. Demonstrated communication skills both written and oral (English Language). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
Applicants may substitute the following education for experience: Successfully completed a four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. Education must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school; OR possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
