The primary purpose of this position, Support Services Specialist NJ-0342-02, is to provide support and services for the Hill AFB Postal and Official Mail Distribution Center.
Major duties
Assist Supervisory Support Services Specialist in response to notification of system degradations, outages, and/or program changes within 1 hour of Support Services Specialist reporting of the issue. Provide assistance and support for accurate processing and dispatch of all classes of incoming and outgoing mail within Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) timeframes. Assist the Supervisory Services Specialist with training and development of Official Mail Center personnel in accordance with Official Mail Manual and AFI regulations. Represent the Official Mail Center (OMC) operation and maintain a positive working relationship with internal and external customers, OMC personnel, MAJCOM/HHQ leadership, base organizations and community partners. Track and report metrics monthly.
Qualification
Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, General Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0342, Support Services Administration Series. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below for the GS-0342, Support Services Administration series. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of general experience at the next lower broadband NJ-1, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-4 or equivalent in other pay systems. General experience is described as: assisting with the planning, organizing, and controlling work involving diverse activities; Management analyst or technician or other work that included study, analysis, or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of managerial or administrative policies, practices, and procedures. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with the major study being - physical education NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Thorough knowledge of postal operations, federal statutes and laws, governing mail management regulations, and other information management disciplines at widely separated on-base and off-base locations. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill and diplomacy in dealing with professional civic, civil service, and military personnel superior in grade and/or position. Ability to adapt to various leadership styles to a variety of situations; ability to plan budgets; ability to to provide professional, high quality customer services; and ability to provide high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for individual by applying these values to daily behavior. Knowledge of US Privacy Act and Freedom of Information Act laws and directives. Thorough knowledge of the US Postal Service automations program; assigning street addresses and street names to all base facilities in accordance with local planning and land use control agencies. Thorough knowledge of commercial mailing machines, ancillary equipment, automated mail processing systems and electronic records management systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
