Job summary
You will serve as a TELECOMMUNICATIONS MECHANIC in the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station of NCTAMS LANT DET GUANTANAMO BAY.
Major duties
You will install, repair, modify and maintain telephone lines, cables and related equipment. You will operate test equipment (e.g., telephone test sets, dial speed indicators, computer diagnostic equipment, optical time domain reflector meters) to analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits. You will inspect telecommunications equipment to determine source of trouble (e.g., worn or bare wires, loose connections, broken components). You will troubleshoot telephone equipment and wiring to verify functionality and correct working order. You will use terminal equipment (e.g., digital telephone, synchronous and asynchronous data modules, modems, protocol converts, interface equipment to data networks) for designing, installing, testing, and maintaining digital circuitry.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Telecommunications Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by 1) Installing and terminating copper and fiber optic cables of telecommunication systems; 2) Repairing worn wires, loose connections or broken components of telecommunications systems; 3) Using hand tools of the trade such as crimpers, punch-down tools, pipe benders, and wire wrap/unwrap tools. Subject to electrical shock, minor cuts and bruises from handling equipment and using hand tools.
