Job summary

You will serve as a TELECOMMUNICATIONS MECHANIC of NCTAMS LANT DET GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba.

Major duties

You will conduct operational tests on installed and repaired telecommunications equipment to verify functional operation. You will install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and restore voice and data communications circuits using automated, manual, and computerized test equipment. You will test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to identify source of malfunction. You will test repaired, newly installed, or updated telecommunications equipment for functional operation. You will use voltmeters, ohmmeters, current flow and continuity testers, handsets, breakout boxes, decibel (DB) meters, or optical time domain reflectometers to test or repair telecommunications equipment. You will inspect telecommunications equipment to determine source of trouble (e.g. worn or bare wires, loose connecti0ns, broken components).

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A TELECOMMUNICATIONS MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: The ability to perform common tasks including 1) Installing and terminating copper and/or fiber optic cables; 2) Determining work methods, tools, materials, and equipment required to install, repair, or modify telephone systems; 3) Performing work involved in the routine installation, removal, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of voice and/or non-voice communications systems.
