Job summary

About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the U.S. Army Signal Activity-Fort Detrick (ASA-DET) Department of Defense Information Network in Fort Detrick, Maryland.

Major duties

Serve as the first level supervisor to the operations civilian and military personnel. Advise the company leadership and staff personnel of progress on special assignments and telecommunications information system upgrades, modifications, and equipment hardware enhancements being implemented within the Company. Approve plans, training requests, awards, employee utilization proposals and estimates and justifies resources required to accomplish plans, awards, and training. Interfaces with the union involving actions by employees and management. Resolve technical work problems to ensure Government-wide, agency, and installation development programs are implemented to achieve the goals of local and higher headquarters objectives. Evaluate levels and quality of operations, assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate station/shift supervisors to resolve problems. Act as the central point of contact for all communications circuit/trunk/system or equipment degradations or outages.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by providing staff direction and advice relative to existing communication systems; developing communication systems and network requirements or procedures to meet organizational objectives; conducting tests to evaluate operational or performance characteristics of telecommunications equipment; and creating or presenting reports on the status of assigned telecommunications operations. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
