Job summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serve as an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) in the Kirk US Army Health Clinic (KUSAHC) Occupational Health Clinics (OHC) at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland (Aberdeen and Edgewood areas) as required.
Major duties
Assess the health care needs and provide or coordinate the provision of care for occupational injuries and illnesses. Coordinate with health care providers to ensure continuity of care through referral and/or follow-up. Work independently to provide quality patient care in collaboration with Physicians, mid-level health care providers, Industrial Hygienists, Safety Specialists, and management. Maintain knowledge of potential occupational hazards and hazardous operations and the medical evaluation and treatment requirements for injury and exposure. Notify doctors and/or industrial hygienists and/or safety officers of unsafe conditions and exposure situations. Provide nursing assessment, diagnosis and implementation of a treatment plan according to standardized medical protocols for occupational and non-occupational illnesses. Perform selected technical portions of health examinations, e.g. health and work history, vital signs, vision, hearing and pulmonary function tests, and electrocardiograms. Recognize and make specific recommendations to the physician for the reasonable accommodation of conditions which interfere with the employee's ability to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service which includes: 1) performing nursing assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of treatment plan according to standardized medical protocols for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses; 2) coordinating with health care providers to ensure continuity of care through referral and/or follow-up; 3) performing medical surveillance physical examinations for personnel exposed to hazardous agents. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Public Health Education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Licensure Requirements: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.(Note: You must attach a copy of your license.)
