Job summary
About the Position: This position supports the Department of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Major duties
Greet patients and take necessary action to expedite a smooth and effective visit. Schedule patient appointments. Receive all telephone calls and visitors to the department, and answers inquires such as obtaining medical assistance; directions for contacting different clinics; resolving requests for changes in scheduled appointment; and test preparation. Utilize in-depth knowledge of office automation and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve and print various reports that contain medical terminology. Establish, organize, and maintain medical records, in the proper sequence, ensuring all necessary forms and documents are present, accurate, and complete. Train new staff on departmental guidelines to include, but not limited to, department standard operating procedures, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving patients and visitors in a medical treatment facility; scheduling patient appointments; maintaining electronic patient records; and inputting medical data into automated healthcare systems such as Military Health System (MHS) Genesis and Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
