Job summary

Major duties
Leads the work of the Military Pay Technicians engaged in processing pay entitlement, bonuses, leave, and personnel actions to the master Military Pay Account. Assures timely completion of assigned work, adjusts assignments to meet priorities, obtains assistance from the supervisor on serious problems that arise. Prepares reports outlining the nature of the problem, recommend solution, and impact on processing procedures. Answers all types of technical and complex correspondence and inquiries concerning active duty military pay. Performs quality control examination on completed actions of Military Pay Technicians to ensure and determine validity, accuracy and adequacy of action taken. Oversees the work distribution and ensures timely accomplishment of assigned workload. The incumbent remains in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities

To be hired at the GS-7 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: Time-in-Grade for GS-7: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-6 or higher grade in Federal Service. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-06) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience is defined as: Reviewing work for technical adequacy and compliance with established policies and procedures; processing a wide variety of complex military pay audits; Examining and verifying all documents for propriety, completeness and accuracy. Running reports to monitor workload and providing technical support on standard procedures to coworkers. To be hired at the GS-8 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: Time-in-Grade for GS-8: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-7 or higher grade in Federal Service. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-07) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized Experience is defined as: Applying expert-level knowledge of a large body of military pay rules, procedures and operations sufficient to process pay actions requiring audits, corrections, and adjustments of several interrelated aspects of military pay, sufficient to provide leadership, training and support to others responsible for this work. Experience must include expert-level knowledge of related payroll systems sufficient to take necessary intervention and bypass of normal automated systems and procedures, and resolve issues within the automated systems. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
Education
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience for the GS-07: One (1) year of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement when education is directly related to the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim).
