About U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command
Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is an US Army Military Installation located approximately 45 miles West of Salt Lake City, Utah. TEAD is a premier active joint ammunition storage site. TEAD is responsible for shipping, storing, receiving, inspecting, demilitarization, and maintaining training and war reserve conventional ammunition. Tooele’s Ammunition Equipment and Manufacturing Directorate (AEMD) designs and manufacturers ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) used in maintenance and demilitarization of munitions for all the Department of Defense (DoD). The Depot is in Tooele County and surrounded by the communities of Tooele, Grantsville, Stockton, and Rush Valley. The area surrounding the depot is as an urban center for a highly varied productive industrial and agricultural industries.

About the Position: This position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, McAlester, Ok. The Firefighter (Basic Life Support/HAZMAT Technician) serves as a driver and operator of firefighting apparatus, performs structural firefighting tasks, and provides basic life support emergency procedures.
Major duties
This is a developmental position being filled at the GS-05, GS-06 or GS-07 Level. The full performance GS-07 level of this position entails the following duties: Drive firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, rescue truck, brush truck, quick-attack vehicle, airport rescue fire fighting vehicle). Perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires. Operate firefighting equipment (e.g., hoses, ladders, hydrants) to fight structural fires. Perform noninvasive basic life support emergency procedures. Respond to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release, i.e., stop, control and clean-up.

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study. NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages. NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification. Time in Grade Requirement for GS-05: There are no time-in-grade restrictions for advancing to a GS-5 position. GS-06 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; performing rescue operations; operating fire communications equipment; performing first aid and/or basic life support; or performing hazardous materials containment and control duties such as access control or establishing a safe perimeter around the incident. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). GS-07 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; performing rescue operations; performing first aid and/or basic life support; performing hazardous materials containment and control as a first responder; and employing hazard and/or risk assessment techniques to complete incident analysis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement for GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical Care Fire Suppression Firefighting Equipment Hazardous Materials Response Preventative Maintenance Vehicle Operation Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. Education may be substituted for experience at the GS-05 level. However, for the GS-06 and GS-07 levels, qualification requirements must be met using experience alone, as no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Selective Placement Factor: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Maximum Entry Age (MEA) The MEA for Firefighters is 37. Applicants not appointed by the last day of the month in which that individual reaches their 37th birthday shall not be appointed or assigned to these positions. Maximum Re-entry Age An employee who previously served on a covered position may be rehired past the MEA as long as he/she is able to complete 20 years of covered service by his/her mandatory retirement age. The maximum re-entry age for the individual is calculated by determining the total amount of time he/she has served on a covered position and subtracting that from age 57, if a firefighter. The employee's current age is compared to the calculated maximum re-entry age to determine if he/she can be rehired into the covered position. Waivers to Maximum Entry Age MEA may be waived, but only under specific circumstances and only if approved by the authorized entity: Waivers to MEA for firefighters must be approved by local Command.
