Job summary
You will serve as a Nuclear Engineering Technician in the NDT Engineering Branch, Welding & Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Engineering Division, Quality Assurance Office, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.
Major duties
You will serve as NAVSEA Staff NDT Examiner, certified as Level III Examiner in two or more of the following testing methods: Visual/Dimensional, Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, Ultrasonic, Radiography, and Eddy Current. You will be accountable for the qualification, examination, and certification of all NAVSEA non-nuclear and dual certified (non-nuclear and nuclear) civilian NDT Level III examiners within the public shipyards and Trident Refit Facilities. You will serve as a NAVSEA expert on all aspects of NDT including overseeing the shipyard's quality control nuclear and non-nuclear NDT training programs. You will independently approve training and technical procedures, develop examination and certification requirements and administer examinations for certification of personnel in all methods of nondestructive testing. You will plan, develop, author, and provide final qualification and approval of NDT procedures as required to maintain compliance with current NAVSEA directives. You will review work to assure non-destructive testing on nuclear and non-nuclear systems follows prescribed procedures and approved techniques by surveying inspection and tests in progress and review of inspection reports and test results. You will participate in NAVSEA audits and reviews as the technical expert in nondestructive testing, welder/brazer qualifications and in workmanship programs. You will perform in-depth quality control audits in all areas of Shipyard naval nuclear work. You will perform engineering investigations of nuclear deficiencies for validity and responsibility, analyze deficiencies, measure Shipyard and individual shop/code nuclear quality performance, and initiate corrective action.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience providing technical expertise as a specialist in the field of quality assurance evaluations of ship overhaul and repair work involving nuclear systems. Experience with nondestructive testing as gained through experience in the theoretical and practical aspects of various NDT methods: Visual/Dimensional testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Liquid Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Radiography Testing, and Eddy Current Testing. Experience with audit, investigative, and analysis methods and techniques used to evaluate the performance of inspectors conducting nondestructive testing. Experience administering examinations for certification to personnel at all inspector, supervisory, and examiner levels in all methods of nondestructive testing. Experience planning, developing, authoring, and providing final authorization and approval of non-destructive testing procedures. Experience with military welding, brazing, and inspection standards.
