Job summary

You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY of FWD DEPLOYED REG MAINT CTR DET ROTA, Spain.

Major duties

You will troubleshoot ship electronic navigation systems to diagnose system faults. You will evaluate the condition of equipment to determine repair parts or materials needed. You will analyze testing methods to determine effectiveness of electronic systems. You will collaborate with engineers to complete ship maintenance, repair, or modernization projects. You will adapt methods and techniques to solve electronic operational problems on ship systems.

Qualification

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Providing technical services to include, inspecting, repairing, and providing training on navigation equipment and systems (e.g. WSN-7 Ring Laser Inertial Navigator, SSN-6 NAVSSI, AN/SSN-9 GPNTS, Electromagnetic Log (EMLOG), MV103 Fluxgate Magnetic Compass, Integrated Bridge Navigation System (IBNS/IBS)); 2) Troubleshooting, repairing, and configuring Navigation Systems and their interfaces; 3) Utilizing associated engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical, electrical, electronic, and structural) to resolve problems affecting the Navigation systems; 4) Providing technical assistance for mission degrading Casualty Reports (CASREP). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials, turbines, condensers, etc.; and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (sonar domes, tanks, etc.) The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopter and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. This position has been identified as one in which shift h~urs may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks. This position requires the incumbent be eligible for an official government passport.
