Major duties

Independently manufacture intricate dental prostheses within exacting technical tolerances as requested by prescribing doctors to ensure properly finished product. Independently fabricate the full range of fixed, removable and Implant prostheses. Plan, organize and direct case assignments, workloads and production schedules of fixed and removable prostheses. Serve as technical advisor in the area of fixed partial denture laboratory technology to the Laboratory Officer. Assist in problem solving and trouble shooting in fixed and removable prostheses fabrication and dental material/product evaluation. Fabricate all ceramic restorations, keeping current with emerging technologies. Provide quality assurance review of lab product fabrication at work area assigned to in the lab.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate that you possess at least one year of specialized experience which includes interpreting and applying dental prescriptions, fabricating fixed dental prosthesis, and providing technical assistance to dental laboratory staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-08. OR Education: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Dentistry from an accredited college or university. OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Licensed Dentist: Licensed professional dentists will be considered qualified for any grade level if they have, in the aggregate, the required experience in dental laboratory procedures.
