Job summary

Major duties
You will start and stop steam turbine generator sets, Gas turbine, and Diesel generators according to load requirements. You will maintain and operate a central high pressure steam and electrical generating plant. You will perform preventative maintenance work on plant equipment.
Qualification
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN THE UTILITIES AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT BRANCH, PRODUCTION DIVISION, PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT SUBMARINE BASE NEW LONDON. THE INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSEEING EMPLOYEES THAT MAINTAIN AND REPAIR THE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS LOCATED THOUGHOUT THE POWER PLANT, OILY WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY AND WATERFRONT SHIP TO SHORE SERVICES TEAMS. RELATED PLANT INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Operator without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) THE INCUMBENT MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO ASSIGN WORK, MONITOR QUALITY AND PROGRESS, AND MANAGE MULTIPLE COMPETING PRIORITIES. 2) THE INCUMBENT MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT, SETTING PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS, AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION. 3) A SOLID UNDERSTANDING OF OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS AND RISK MANAGEMENT IS ESSENTIAL.
