About U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command

Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is an US Army Military Installation located approximately 45 miles West of Salt Lake City, Utah. TEAD is a premier active joint ammunition storage site. TEAD is responsible for shipping, storing, receiving, inspecting, demilitarization, and maintaining training and war reserve conventional ammunition. Tooele’s Ammunition Equipment and Manufacturing Directorate (AEMD) designs and manufacturers ammunition peculiar equipment (APE) used in maintenance and demilitarization of munitions for all the Department of Defense (DoD). The Depot is in Tooele County and surrounded by the communities of Tooele, Grantsville, Stockton, and Rush Valley. The area surrounding the depot is as an urban center for a highly varied productive industrial and agricultural industries.

About the Position: This position serves as an Ammunition Inspector assisting Quality Assurance Specialist in performing inspection work at all conventional ammunition work stations which includes receipt, storage renovation, modification, demilitarization, destruction and shipment of conventional munitions and rockets.

Major duties

Perform various ammunition and packing inspections to ensure quality specifications. Verify the operating procedures against the adopted procedures to prevent safety violations. Use a variety of tools, equipment, and gauges to test ammunition for compliance. Conducts assignments for the ammunition surveillance division for testing. Witness the disassembly, replacement of parts, and assembly of components at various work locations to comply with quality requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Inspector without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex task including: quality assurance inspections that detect abnormalities, using calibrated instruments with ammunition, explosives and operations surrounding associated logistics, maintenance and inspection. I am skilled in interpreting technical material to ensure inspection criteria is fulfilled and safe operations are performed in ammunition logistics (shipping, receiving handling and storage). I have inspected ammunition for serviceability and safety. I have a high level of experience with computer operation and the logistics modernization programs. I can perform mechanical and physical test on ammunition and their components. Knowledge of inspection techniques for munitions being maintained and preserved, modified, demilitarized, or subject to preservation or maintenance for quality standards. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort-Frequently lifts items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally in excess of 40 pounds. May pull or push pallet jacks with loads of up to four thousand pounds. The work requires sitting, walking,bending, reaching/crouching, climbing, and long periods of standing. Work requires manual dexterity and mental, visual and muscular coordination. Working Conditions-Work is performed indoors or outdoors. Work areas are generally well lighted, ventilated and some are heated. Workers are required to stand on floors made of concrete, lead or conductive composition. They are required to wear protective clothing; i.e., gas masks, safety shoes, rubber gloves. They are regularly subject to dirt, noise, fumes, and variations of weather. They may be exposed to explosives and/or irritants, i.e., TNT, Comp B, CS, and CN.
