This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certian Personnel in the DoD workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) handles the day to day operations of Army Installations.

Major duties

Installs large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating. Identifies faulty equipment causes and makes repairs on large systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating. Install or replace pipes and ducts where the areas to be conditioned are a considerable distance from compressors.

Qualification

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the full range of Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic tasks. I am skilled in making visual, audible, and mechanical checks for proper temperature of conditioned spaces, proper operation of different parts of refrigeration systems, proper oil levels, unusual noises, loose connections, and faulty insulation; applying prescribed testing procedures and equipment; and exploring probable reasons for equipment failure. I am skilled at performing complete system repairs such as dismantling, repairing and reassembling units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Mechanic frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms to parts of systems that are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, bending, and kneeling are required for long periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is usually adequately heated and ventilated; work is frequently dirty and greasy; variable temperatures occur when working in cold-storage rooms; subject to possible injuries such as cuts, bruises, burns, and electrical shock; possible respiratory disorders due to inhalation of refrigerant gase.
