Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Staff Radar Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The selected engineer will perform as a member of an interdisciplinary team on a key effort to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. The successful engineer will contribute to the overall development of radar subsystems, including System Architecture/Concept Development, Candidate Technology Trade Studies, Requirements Development and Derivation, Algorithm Development, Performance Analysis, Data Analysis, and work with cross-disciplinary hardware, software, and firmware teams.

The candidate will support the radar integration team and will be responsible for development and implementation of new and existing high fidelity, physics-based radar system performance models, complex algorithms, threat models, and command & control models. This role may also include developing / analyzing AESA arrays, modeling array performance, predicting performance as installed on airborne platform. 

Essential Functions:  

  • Support development and integration of radar subsystems and components to meet platform mission objectives 

  • Requirements development, analysis, maturation and implementation translating customer requirements into hardware and software specifications 

  • Performing functional  and performance analyses 

  • Development of mathematical algorithms for mode/sensor implementation 

  • Develops software to model behavior of systems in real-time and constructive simulations of sensors and other platforms.  

  • Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership within the organization. 

  • Perform mission engineering activities to ensure continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance, through the Systems Engineering “V”. Ensure performance capabilities of new systems and architectures are traded against cost and mission requirements and assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging systems and capabilities in representative operational environments. 

  • Guiding the team through development/implementation activities. 

Basic Qualifications:

Sr. Staff Radar Engineer (T06):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 14 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 10 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

  • Experience with Signals processing

  • Experience with Radar Systems

  • Experience with Electronics systems performance analysis, test or integration

  • Experience with MATLAB, C/C++, Python, or related languages

  • Knowledge of system engineering design methods, including requirements analysis and flow-down, specification derivation and interface control documentation  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with Air-to-Air and/or Air-to-Ground modes 

  • Demonstrated mathematical problem-solving ability and data analysis experience 

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication, presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills 

  • Work experience with one of the following areas related to radar systems: search or track, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic protection, ID, or adaptive technique 

  • Customer focus and collaboration skills 

  • Demonstrated team leadership experience 

  • An understanding of the physical limitations to implementing complex algorithms in real hardware
