Job Summary
An Engineering Support Solder Technician is primarily responsible to use their fine pitch SMT soldering skills to rework and modify engineering micro-sized components on CCAs and prototype sub-assemblies. Also use other fabrication and test skills to complete assemblies and cable/harness systems per Engineering drawings, schematics, or work instructions. Work includes Engineering prototyping and repair of returned materials.
What You Will Do
The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to effectively and efficiently repair or replace defective Engineering micro-components and wiring to ensure installations meet Engineering conformity. They will demonstrate effective cable/harness repair techniques using acceptable practices including splicing, crimping, soldering and pinning of wiring. The candidate will ensure that all work performed is properly and completely documented and ready for use. Verification/Inspection may be required, and candidate will need to be able to identify and document findings per authorizing protocols.
The candidate may also provide on the job recommendations to solve hardware integration issues with mid and upper-level Engineering and Leadership. The candidate will comply with the company’s FOD program, tool control program and all safety regulations. The candidate may perform duties at various company locations.
- Micro-soldering under a microscope
- Quality verification/inspection under a microscope
- Identifying, repairing, and replacing damage to wire harnesses and cable assemblies
- Replacing mechanical and electrical components
- Recognizing failures and isolating problems and suggesting appropriate corrective action
- Keeping management appraised of all unresolved and/or potential problems that would negatively affect schedules or quality
- Providing support to the Engineering development team on all assignments and supporting other lab assignments within our department
This position is 100% ONSITE in Huntsville, Alabama
Qualifications You Must Have
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- IPC J-STD-001 solder certification
- Requires a minimum of four (4) years of micro-soldering fine pitch SMT components
- Typically requires verification/inspection experience with associated standards, processes, and documentation
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S Citizenship is required, as only U.S Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value
- IPC 610/620 certification
- Associate’s degree in a technical field
- Recent experience using hand tools such as cutters, wire strippers, X-acto knives, electric heat gun, and fixtures such as molds and mandrels
- Work experience with mechanical and/ or solder standards, processes, and documentation
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, schematics, detailed electronic blueprints, and other similar authorized drawings and documents
