The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do:
The Senior Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC.
Lead AM Qualification efforts on IQ and OQ while supporting MQ development across the full AM value stream from material characterization to product development
Identify sources of process and machine variance, develop tools to quantify those variances, and implement solutions to eliminate the variances
Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives
Drive rigorous RCCA activities on build failures, machine or process issues, or product performance gaps
Establish relationships with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
Provide direction and knowledge transfer to RTX Business Units while disseminating best practices to increase the rate of additive adoption
Qualifications You must Have:
A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Masters or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.
Strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment.
Work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
Recognized expert in LPBF development and qualification processes
Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
Hands on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment
Deep understanding of AM machine sensors and control systems
Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages
Demonstrated experience leading complex R&D projects
Experience with custom process parameter development
