The following position is to join our RTX Research Center team:
The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.
What You Will Do:
The Senior Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:
Development, demonstration, and documentation of design methodologies and tools for additive manufacturing including conventional CAD and implicit modeling-based approaches
Execution of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) projects to support business unit evaluation and adoption of additively manufactured components and systems
Topology optimization for generation of geometries enabled by additive manufacturing across structural, thermal, or hydrodynamic domains
Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, process, and manufacturing engineers to gain a deep understanding of the full value stream
Support RTX Business Units by providing design expertise and best practices
Collaborate with internal and external groups to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals
Qualifications You must Have:
A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years working experience with CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks, etc.) for mechanical design or product engineering and a willingness to try new ideas and challenge the status quo to advance technology, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
Experience with the AM process using laser powder bed fusion or directed energy deposition with scripting experience with CAD tools, Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
Experience with finite element analysis and meshing best practices (e.g. Ansys, baqus, COMSOL) and experience with AM simulation tools and meshing a plus
Experience with multi-disciplinary design analysis and optimization (MDAO) concepts or tools preferred (e.g. parametric design space exploration)
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills
Highly self-motivated and detail oriented
A desire to learn something new every day
Preferred candidates for this position will have an MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.
