The Airframes, Structures & Radars, and Materials (ASM) leads in the mechanical hardware design, development, and production of weapons systems. ASM uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, and technology, with capabilities encompassing a broad range of technical disciplines, including product engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials engineering, analysis and test, rapid hardware development/builds and configuration and data management documentation.
The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer, located in Tewksbury, MA (On-site)
What You Will Do
Serve as a primary Raytheon lead and design engineer supporting the customer.
Provide responses to supplier questions related to general design expectations and interpretation of the relevant specifications.
Provide guidance on Raytheon expectations for design rigor, level of TDP & MDP documentation required, typical analysis approach, and other similar topics.
Ensure the suppliers are successful in completing major design and production reviews on schedule.
Support supplier led PDR, CDR, including ensuring design is manufacturable for multiple new MEIs
Connect suppliers with Raytheon subject matter experts as required.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges.
Work with limited supervision and meet technical, schedule, and monetary commitments.
Participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to promote sound technical decisions.
Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in an engaged team environment.
Managing a team of multi-disciplinary engineers (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical and Test), and working with production and vendors to build producible hardware with an aggressive development schedule.
Willingness to travel (domestic and international).
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant engineering experience OR in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Experience with hardware design, integration, and/or designing and developing cables, connectors, and harnesses (preferably for use in Military environments).
Experience with Prime Movers (Tractors/Trucks and Trailers) and/or Support Equipment - Military Shelters/Vans and/or ISO containers.
Experience with International and Domestic Supplier support.
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance and US passport is required.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Military cable and electromechanical system design/troubleshooting experience
ASME Y14.5 GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) experience
Strong CAD design experience (CREO, AutoCAD preferred)
Experience with CREO for creating Cable models and drawings
Experience with PDM/Windchill or similar product data management tool
Experience with materials, load bearing structures, shock/vibration/load analysis
Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), cost and schedule.
