Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector is seeking Principal Systems Engineers to join the Command and Control, Communication and Computer Missile Defense (C4MD) Business Unit in support of our programs, in Huntsville, AL. This position may place candidates on various teams within C4MD

As a Principal Engineer Systems, you will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Perform analysis at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Engineer Systems: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 1 Year with PhD
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects, coordinating tasks, resources, and timelines to ensure smooth execution and timely delivery
  • Ability to perform detailed analyses to assess hardware form, fit, function, and compatibility for integration in legacy system
  • Experience with hardware integration, testing, and validation in legacy systems
  • Ability to work iteratively with customer to refine system designs and translate expectations into actionable design objectives
  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, technical managers, and customers
  • Physical requirements for lifting up to 60lbs including handling hardware components and equipment
  • Willingness to perform tasks in outdoor or non-climate controlled environments as necessary
  • Ability to support hardware integration fielding events and demonstrations
  • Active Secret clearance to start

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks, work under general direction, and demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Coordinating and collaborating with diverse engineering and cross-stakeholder teams to assist in managing technical baseline
  • Familiarity with legacy system sustainment and modernization efforts.
  • Technical experience with Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD): Command and Control (C2) with an understanding of weapons, sensors, and distributed computing as well as their impact on a command-and-control system's architecture, requirements, and interfaces for communications between these systems
  • Experience developing technical documentation and CDRLs such as Trade Studies, Test Reports, and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs)
  • Adapt to dynamic development process, leveraging legacy system performance as a reference rather than predefined requirements
  • Familiarity with hardware development lifecycles, including design, prototyping, and production
  • Proven ability to comprehend, develop, and implement engineering solutions that preserve core functionality and maintain interoperability with established systems
  • Ability to identify, build, and test hardware prototypes in the Engineering Development Model (EDM): Shelter
  • Proven ability to understand and develop hardware systems documentation, interconnect diagrams, drawings, BOMs, and military standards
  • Driving required contractual deliverables and non-contractual documentation updates to closure
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering best practices and procedures
  • Ability to assist with process improvement as well as identification, development, and documentation to enhance workflow efficiency, ensure consistency, and align with program objectives
