Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has openings for Principal Industrial Engineers/Senior Principal Industrial Engineers to support our Industrial Engineering Operations Management group (IEOM). This candidate will join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on site in Melbourne, FL. Due to the nature of this role, this position requires an on-site presence and cannot be performed remotely.

The Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Team is an integral part of day-to-day operations and routinely works alongside many of the other organizations here in Melbourne. This is a team that comes together to learn, collaborate, and overcome challenges in a fast-paced environment. Please note: A start date, for candidates selected, will be determined after obtaining both a DOD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access and is contingent upon Business/Customer funding. Limited travel to other Northrop Grumman facilities may be required.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzes lead times, queue times, work-in-process, cycle times, and throughput to meet customer demand most effectively and efficiently.
  • Builds scalable and sustainable models to optimize product flow, while incorporating cost, schedule, and resource constraints
  • Develops optimized scheduling tools and aligns SAP/MRP systems with an executable plan given various capacity constraints.
  • Incorporates complex interdependencies within a system to account for the interaction of multiple cost centers, programs, equipment, and tools.
  • Communicates requirements planning and systems framework with IT, ERP, business analytics, and data science teams.
  • Works with developers to design an interactive user interface that will be effective at scheduling jobs across cost centers.
  • Guides digital transformation efforts to align with sector and enterprise strategies.
  • Leads and drives positive change using iterative and agile methodologies.
  • Creates new metrics and data visualizations to monitor shop floor performance.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Industrial Engineer: 

  • Bachelor's degree with 4 or more years of related engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s degree with 3 or more years of related engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience, PhD and 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access in reasonable amount of time as required by the business prior to commencement of employment.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Industrial Engineer: 

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years of related engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s degree with 6 or more years of related engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience OR PhD and 4 years of related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security Clearance and special program access in reasonable amount of time as required by the business prior to commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing Execution System (MES), MRP/SAP/Oracle or related experience
  • Experience in macros and pivot tables.
  • Experience with data mining/data analysis.
  • Experience in CAD, modeling, or simulation methods (AutoCAD, Visio, etc.).
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with improving manufacturing workflow utilizing Lean/Six Sigma or equivalent methodologies
  • Familiarity with mixed model manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with agile methods of project management or development
