Overview

This position supports Manufacturing Engineering (D467) products for the Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW). Employing structural, civil, mechanical, industrial, and marine engineers, Manufacturing Engineering develops, researches, designs and procures special tools, fixtures and other manufacturing aids required to facilitate submarine construction. The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor will lead a team of 10-15 engineers developing and supporting fixtures and engineered procedures required to successfully execute construction. The manufacturing engineering supervisor is responsible for the safety, quality, technical adequacy, procedural compliance, schedule adherence, and cost efficiency of each product under their cognizance.

The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor will lead their team to accomplish the following primary job responsibilities:

1) Identifying and developing methods and tools required for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems and modules.

2) Participation in Design/Build teams during new product design; review of Class drawings for manufacturing concerns; development of concepts for tools and fixtures; preparation of lifting and handling procedures and drawings for rigging submarine components and modules.

3) Providing pro-active construction support and maintaining consistent interface with the construction trades in support of the above engineering areas of responsibility.

Primary job responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor include:

1) Managing and leading the team to complete high first time quality products that are technically acceptable and delivered on time and within cost in a manner that safely supports the construction of SSW.

2) Supervision, training, mentorship, and development of 10-15 engineers, with an emphasis on developing the workforces ability to practically apply engineering skills to ships construction.

3) Ensuring the group is adequately staffed to support scheduled and emergent work.

4) Interfacing with various groups and levels of management to ensure timely support of products from stakeholders.

5) Maintaining positive working relationships with construction trades management.

This position requires strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must work well with all levels of engineering, trades, trade management, program management, and the Navy customer. Work in production areas and onboard active and new construction submarines is required. Occasional travel, weekend, and evening hours may be required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • B.S. degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or Marine Engineering or equivalent technical engineering degree
  • 4 years engineering experience minimum

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in Manufacturing Engineering
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Experience supporting construction in the shipyard environment
  • Experience with CLB, VPM, and/or SSW design products and procedures
  • Experience with EVMS
