Overview

The candidate shall be able to manage the daily activities of 2 4 Operations Supervisors, provide daily direction and technical assistance to their team. The candidates primary focus will be to ensure their team has taken the proper time to prepare for all tasks, ensuring work is conducted in a safe manner and drive first time quality into all tasks. The candidate shall implement a culture of continuous improvement where their team is continuously learning. The candidate is also responsible to ensure that their assigned project is meeting budget and schedule requirements.

The candidate shall be knowledgeable in mechanical component installation and have a broad based knowledge of the submarine construction process. The candidate will ensure all safety requirements, procedures and processes are followed by all department personnel.

The candidate must be able to promote a positive team environment, as well as interact with all levels of management and the customer. The candidate will be expected to interface with Human Resources and resolve employee issues. The candidate shall have a proven track record in safety, maintaining quality, achieving schedules and initiating process improvements. The candidate shall have excellent communication skills both verbal as well as written.

The candidate shall have excellent leadership skills, computer skills and have familiarity with EBCs Planning and Control Systems such as ARTEMIS, SPARS, MRP, ERS, TGIs and 7G/3G. Attention to details is vital.

The candidate must be willing to work all shifts and overtime as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper preparation is performed by Operations Supervisors
  • Ensure team is properly identifying hazards and mitigating them by performing surveillances
  • Drive first time quality by monitoring the overall quality performance, performing surveillances of work execution and applying corrective actions to address deficiencies
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement efforts to support program goals
  • Achieve budget/schedule objectives for assigned projects
  • Manage project budgets utilizing Earned Value Management Systems
  • Manage risks that could have a negative impact to cost and schedule objectives; establish mitigation strategies to meet performance objectives
  • Provide input on manpower needs to the department Manager
  • Recruit internally, interview, and recommend best candidates for supervisory positions as well as hourly employees
  • Improve workforce capabilities by identifying knowledge gaps, implementing training and employee development; plan and execute training within the shop
  • Establish and communicate work expectations; assess overall workforce performance and productivity; positively motivate the workforce
  • Manage individual performance of supervisors; develop their technical and leadership skills.
  • Shall be able to promote a positive team environment
  • Shall be able multitask and prioritize tasks based on available resources


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) plus years supervisory or military supervisory experience
  • Five (5) years of mechanical/trades experience

Preferred:

  • Two (2) plus years of Supervisory experience as an Outside Machinist
  • Previous Supervisory or General Foremen experience in the Groton Shipyard
  • Bachelors of Science degree
  • Completion of either CD Program, FLG or BLG
  • Experience as an Outside Machinist Nuclear Supervisor
