Job Description:
GDIT is hiring an Epidemiologist to provide support to the Epidemiology Task Force COVID-19 Program Support. Due to the recent events caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC Epidemiology Task Force is responsible for identifying and tracking COVID-19 cases, spread and containment. The COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force is critical to accomplishing the CDC's mission and goals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An Epidemiologist has the necessary education and work experiences to effectively provide data analysis, data management, and data visualization support to the task force. This role support enhanced COVID-19 surveillance efforts and epidemiological studies.
RESPONSIBILITIES (vary with years of relevant experience and education):
- Support surveillance system planning, protocol development, and operational logistics, possibly including developing and keeping task trackers, system organization, organization of surveillance documentation (e.g. SOPs, forms, reports, etc.), and preparing related materials and overviews;
- Monitor data submissions from surveillance partners and displays diplomacy in communicating with our external partners;
- Liaison and build relationships with state public health partners and triage questions with leadership when necessary;
- Provide data cleaning and management support
- Contribute to production of surveillance summaries or manuscripts for publication;
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of analytical data files and provide data file documentation describing the scientific data source;
- Coordinating or participating in surveillance meetings, possibly including taking study minutes and preparing materials on study progress;
- Manage epidemiological and laboratory data by using SAS, R, or equivalent statistical package;
- Familiarity with data management software packages
- Perform data quality assurance activities, including identifying and resolving any inconsistencies in data flow, data outside legitimate ranges, and illogical data responses by developing data quality reports;
- Investigate and resolve data anomalies or errors by using a combination of software packages including SAS or R, MS Access and Excel, and other software (e.g. REDCap, DCIPHER);
- Manages and is responsible for the successful completion of all tasks in assigned project
- Holds regular touch bases with external and internal partners
- Problem-solves and consults on personnel and other issues
- Monitor data submissions from surveillance partners and displays diplomacy in communicating with our external partners;
- Liaison and build relationships with state public health partners and triage questions with leadership when necessary;
- Explore the use of data visualization platforms (e.g. R, Power BI, mapping software) to quickly summarize study findings;
- Support data visualization activities (both for hypothesis generation and to share data with the response) in order to develop communication materials such as data sets, slide sets and summary reports;
- Work on ongoing basis to improve and automate code;
- Database management and upkeep as well as complete ad hoc data requests;
- Compile individual-level data submitted from multiple external partners in diverse data formats and merge with laboratory testing results from CDC or contract laboratories;
- Communicate analytic results to internal CDC staff and external partners in a clear, concise and timely manner; and
- Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast paced work environment.

- Stay up-to-date with analytic tools and features
Complete trainings for analytical and technical skills in spare time - Run ad-hoc analyses as needed (outputs may be used for presentations, publications, or urgent requests from team leadership)
- Create databases and data collection tools from scratch and troubleshoot/provide solutions for reporting issues as they arise
Work alongside surveillance manager and DCIPHER team (developers) to communicate requirements for surveillance pipeline needs - Provide testing support and review from an analyst's perspective of new/updated platform components, database updates, visualizations and interactive dashboards
- Support surveillance activities by creating weekly/monthly reports, conducting medical chart abstractions, and completing direct data entry for jurisdictional partners
- Facilitate data governance and metadata management tasks such as creating data dictionaries, variable crosswalks, and data definition templates. Frequently review and revise SOPs as project requirements change.
- Lead charge for generating and publishing public datasets garnered from surveillance data and other projects
- Participate in creating and revising SOPs and case report forms based on updated illness definitions and partner reporting requests
- Curate and review presentations and posters about MIS-C work that are shared at conferences, meetings, seminars, and for training purposes
- Facilitate manuscript publications
- Stay engaged in collection, validation, and analysis of data from project initiation to completion
- Understand and assist with creation of project SOPs and timelines
- Communicate with stakeholders (i.e., co-authors may include external data stewards, reporting jurisdictions, CDC teams) and provide comprehensive documentation/information about data collection and standards for each project
- Conduct data analyses and create data visualizations using tools such as R, SAS, Visio, Excel, and PowerBI
- Develop initial drafts of manuscripts, conduct research and literature reviews, facilitate meetings with CDC co-authors and senior author(s)
- Collaboration with co-authors on writing, presentation, visualization
- Being open to critical and constructive feedback about writing style, interpretation and inferences about data, ideas for inclusion and exclusion of certain information is essential
- Facilitate manuscript through CDC clearance process, submission and publication in scholarly journals and/or MMWRs
- Draft and revise manuscripts per feedback from collaborators and publication reviewers
- Interact with CORVD Communications team when manuscripts are conditionally and finally accepted for publication
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree and M.S. in statistics or mathematics or M.P.H. with 7+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with advanced programming SAS or R for data management
- CDC experience
- Experience with project management

- Experience with outbreak/emergency response at local, state, or federal level
- Experience or understanding of larger surveillance systems used by state public health departments

The likely salary range for this position is $116,450 - $157,550. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
