Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is looking for you to join our growing team as an Engineer Database / Principal Engineer Database. The Mission Assurance (MA) team is seeking a data scientist who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data-driven processes. The ideal candidate possesses both the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. As a function of engaging with stakeholders and taking ownership of outcomes, the candidate can comprehend the general problem space and is confident in socializing, demonstrating, conduct process analyses and design throughout the database implementation

This role may be filled as an Engineer Database or Principal Engineer Database.  

 

Engineer Database 

Essential Functions / Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and verbal format 

  • Supports the design and maintenance of database systems. 

  • Leverage expertise in SQL to design and optimize database systems. 

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand data analysis needs and build custom solutions in Tableau to meet those needs 

  • Harness the power of scripting languages, specifically Power BI, Microsoft SQL queries to develop robust automation solutions, enhance system efficiency, and automate routine database tasks. 

  • Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems to meet business requirements. 

  • Participate in database migration efforts and system upgrades as needed. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline and 2 years of qualifiable database, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline experience; OR Mater of Science degree in STEM discipline AND 0 years of qualifiable database, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline. 

  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) 

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with at least one database management system. 

  • Familiarity with database monitoring tools and performance tuning basics. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Familiar with SharePoint and Power Automate 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Program Access (SAP) 

  • Bachelor of Science STEM degree in Computer Science 

  • Experienced with designing and creating reports utilizing Power BI, Microsoft SQL queries, Power Query M language, and DAX 

  • Experienced with Financial Reporting 

  • Experienced with Power BI Dashboard Reporting 

  • Experienced with producing weekly reports with visualizations and actionable insights 

  • Familiar with manufacturing processes 

 

Principal Engineer Database 

Essential Functions / Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and verbal format 

  • Leverage expertise in SQL to design and optimize database systems. 

  • Collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functionally to understand data analysis needs and build custom solutions in Tableau to meet those needs 

  • Harness the power of scripting languages, specifically Power BI, Microsoft SQL queries to develop robust automation solutions, enhance system efficiency, and automate routine database tasks. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 

  • Analyzes and optimizes performance at an advanced level and implements strategic improvements. 

  • Documents database designs, configurations, and processes for knowledge sharing and future reference. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline and 4 years of qualifiable database, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline experience; OR Mater of Science degree in STEM discipline AND  3 years of qualifiable database, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline. 

  • Must have an active DoD Secret Clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) 

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g., Python, Java) 

  • Understanding of data integration techniques and tools. 

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.  

  • Understanding calculated fields, how to implement parameters, level of detail calculations and hierarchies. 

  • Experienced in data visualization best practices. 

  • Experienced with SharePoint and Power Automate 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Program Access (SAP) 

  • Bachelor of Science STEM degree in Computer Science 

  • Experienced with designing and creating reports utilizing Power BI, Microsoft SQL queries, Power Query M language, and DAX 

  • Experienced with Financial Reporting
